German cutting tools manufacturer Metzmeier Werkzeugservice GmbH is so impressed with the performance of an S Fusion neat oil mist collector from Filtermist that it will be specifying S Fusions on all of its machines when upgrades are due.
Introduced to the market earlier this year, S Fusion successfully removes submicron particles generated in neat oil applications by combining a hi-tech synthetic self-draining media filter with Filtermist’s proven centrifugal technology.
Sartorius Werkzeuge, one of Filtermist’s distributors in Germany, fitted a Fusion filter onto an existing FiltermistXcel2 (now replaced by the S800) in a trial which began in August to test the new product’s performance.
The S Fusion was installed on a Hawemat 3000 CNC from German manufacturer Hawema which uses neat oil at a maximum of 15 bar coolant pressure. Running for 16 hours a day, 5.5 days a week, the Hawemat creates large volumes of oil mist due to the high speed of the grinding wheel.
Managing Director Christian Metzmeier comments, “We have five Filtermist oil mist filters with afterfilters fitted to our Hawema machines. The S Fusion concept has enabled us to use a Filtermist unit we already have on a neat oil, high pressure application. Its success means we will be able to use our other Filtermist units when we upgrade our machines which will potentially save us money.
“We are very happy with this solution - it is very efficient and seems quieter than the other Filtermist units.”
Filtermist visited Metzmeier in Villingen Schwenningen, Bavaria, with Dominique Ullman from Sartorius in November and was delighted to hear that Metzmeier has ordered another S Fusion already for a brand new Hawema machine being delivered next month.
Dominique elaborates, “The Metzmeier application was an ideal opportunity for us to see how well the new product from Filtermist would perform. We have worked with Metzmeier for a number of years and are very pleased that the S Fusion is a success for Christian and his team.”

S Fusion is created by combining a Fusion filter with an S400 or S800 Filtermist oil mist collector, or equivalent older models F250, F275, F7, FX2000 and FX3000.
